"Washoi " It's time to enjoy Japanese Omatsuri (Festival) season!

What kind of festivals are held in your town? From April to October, there are many festivals in my town Seki. Last month, I visited Seki Maturi(festival) in Kibune shrine. You can see classic beautiful portable shrine and floats only two days in a year. Urayasu no mai(type of kagura) was performed by school girls. "Shishimai" (Japanese lion dance) is one of the traditional Japanese performing arts, in which performers mimic a lion's movements in a lion costume to festival music. At night, people carry a portable shrine on their shoulders and shout "Washoi Washoi" loudly.  Besides Seki Maturi, there are Gourmet Fair(June) , Summer Festival, Lantern Festival, Ojyushichiya, Kuman-kusen-nichi, Cutlery Festival, and  here in Seki. If you like festivals, don't miss it!! Please visit my town Seki city and stay at Washokuju Sakura! <Japanese Cooking class & Home stay "Washokuju Sakura"> We offer Japan...

"Reiwa" new era started! This is how Washokuju Sakura celebrate.

We had a long holiday from the end of Apr. to May 6th. On April 30th, the day the Emperor of Japan abdicate. And May 1st, the Crown Prince is due to be throned. Heisei era was over, and a new era called "Reiwa" began. The ceremonies at the Imperial Palace are very serious, quiet and mysterious.  We can watch it on TV. The cities all over Japan are full of events of being thankful for an old era and Emperor and celebratory of a new era and Emperor. In Washokuju Sakura, of course I made Osechi to celebrate this new era! Osechi is for celebration. Hoping Reiwa era would be full of happiness and peace. During this long holiday, I had 3 guests from China, Indonesia and Osaka from Japan. I had great holiday with them! I will introduce about them later. <Japanese Cooking class & Home stay "Washokuju Sakura"> We offer Japanese New Year cooking lessons  "Any Time New Year" program  every day! We don't cook Osechi at home lately, it reminds me of the time when I cooked with my grandma. Additionally, I could learn useful English phrases through this lesson!" Which season is the best traveling to Japan? How to enjoy Japanese four seasons?

If you have been to Japan, which season was the best? If you never been to Japan, we have four seasons which are spring, summer, fall and winter. My favorite season is definitely Spring! Beacuse Sakura(cherry blossoms) blooms in spring. Sakura is special flower for me since it is in my family name. That's why I picked the name " Washoku-ju Sakura "! As for Japanese, Sakura means a lot.  In Japan, school and most company starts new season from April. So when Sakura starts blooming, we feel that the new season has come! Here's some tips how we enjoy Sakura season! With Sakura, we take  picutres, take a walk along Sakura trees, and Ohanami is big event in spring. Ohanami (viewing flowers) is a kind of picnic party that we eat and drink under the Sakura tree with family , friends and co-workers to enjoy cherry blossoms. Cherry blossoms only bloom for a short time, usually for only a week or two. so don't miss the chance and enjoy beautiful c...
